QUIZ - The Story

There are too many stories to how the word ' QUIZ' originated...

One of those interesting stories goes as follows...

   Once upon a time, there was a celebration happening in Dublin to welcome the heir to the Duke of Leinster. There he was, our hero, the proprietor of a theatre, as a volunteer. This man always had the propensity to blow incidental, unimportant things up. So he made a bet that he could spread a nonsense word and make it popular among the inmates of the city, within a span of 48 hours. He was sure that the word would be given a meaning. So, one fine evening, once he was done with his work routine, he gave all his staff, cards, with the alien word 'QUIZ' written on them. He asked them to write the words on every wall and door in the city. To everyone's surprise, the word became the talk of the town the very next day . It was considered to be synonymous with 'something strange' and eventually went on to become a part of the language.

Though the legitimacy of this tale has always been under the scanner, I find this a good way to bring into your zone of knowledge, SSN's QUIZ CLUB.
