Dr. S. Thiruvenkataswami, the Head of the English Department, SSNCE, opens up, in an exclusive interview with your CDB.
What is it about
INSTINCTS that interests you?
It is run completely and exclusively by the students. The
freedom given to them in organizing and managing the events is most welcome.
This cultural fest gives an insight into the world of festivals and carnivals,
about how to orchestrate them. It helps in enhancing their managerial skills,
especially in those of finance, personnel, events, etc. It makes it necessary for
the organizers to update themselves with the advances in technology, and as well acquaint themselves with current affairs and the interests of the society. It
equips them to face the challenges which they may encounter later in their
lives. It effectively brings about overall development in their personality.
How is ELC shaping
up? What do you expect from them?
They have been very active this year. They have been second to none in organizing and hosting events. I feel that proficiency in any language is
enhanced only by individual efforts. I believe language and personality are
interlinked. The members of the have hence tirelessly put in their best
efforts, working intensely and inconspicuously, with a love for literature and a thirst for creativity.
Which event are you
looking forward to?
As a faculty, I have no preference of one event over the
other. But, as an English teacher, I am looking forward to the ELC events. I am
especially excited about LOP (Lights Out
Please), an offshoot of ELC. It takes conviction and skill to master the
art of theatre. It will be well served only if it can bring in new talent and
encourage even the laymen to act. It takes immense courage to become a theatre
artist and more often than not, such people succeed in life as well.
On cartoons and your
favourite character…
I wish the Instincts team all the very best.
