MAGIC OF CARTOONS

- Varshini & Girish

It all started with Mickey and Minnie, jumping on the screen, the two dimensional cartoon structures with their matching red dresses, spread with a cluster of cute, white polka dots, enticing us, as we took a spoon of Cerelac or Farex into our toothless mouths. We laughed at Donald ducking a ball or at Goofy goofing around, and danced with them as they sang the rhymes. Then, there was a certain Tom and his friendly nemesis, Jerry, whose spoils, fights and adventures, we  would  laugh at, even the umpteenth time. The ever enthralling team of the Loony Tunes with Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, Roadrunner and Coyote, Porky Pig and Leghorn, the exploits of Noddy or that of Bob, the builder, would never fail to deliver the fun they promised. We fought Mojo Jojo with the Powerpuff Girls, sailed the seas with Popeye, blew things up in Dexter’s laboratory, solved crimes with Tweety and Granny, and caught the Pokemons with Ash and Pikachu. Sylvester, of course, leapt through the beautiful Alps with Heidi, and the Flintstones amazed us with their lifestyle before the Bronze. There were the Swat Kats whom we could always rely on, and a Scooby- DOO, who would do the same, rather more effortlessly.  We saved the world with Superman, fought criminals with Batman, collected the Dragonballs with Goku and fought Shinobis with Naruto. The Laffalympics would always push us to the edge of our seats and a Johnny Bravo would define style in his own way.

Ask any human what the best years of his life was, a spontaneous “Childhood!” would be the answer. And, these best years were made even better by our imaginary friends, who took us to very different worlds every time, from Townsville to Gotham to Krypton. Who can forget those glorious days when we did those post-school hour sprints to our houses to catch our dearest of dears on the screen. Also were those days when, our most favourite foodstuffs would envy these wonderful siblings of ours, as I would call it, for spoiling their shows. We were no doubt blessed to be born into an era, which had these characters, occupying a major chunk of our childhood. Long lost are those days , but even now, when you are, as your mother would say, at kazhutha vayasu, there is a part in you which yearns to meet them all again; which wishes them to walk back into your life, for at least  a day. So we’ve tailored a better offer, an offer that you can’t refuse – Spending not one, not two, but THREE WHOLE DAYS with your old friends again at this year’s grand inter-college cultural fest, INSTINCTS-2014.

SO this March, release the freak inside you for an insane ride with the cartoon world’s most loved creatures! Get out there and relive your childhood..For the baby in you cannot always have a day out and do the ‘BOO-BOO’..
